Texas Roadhouse Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 t. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 3 T. melted butter, slightly cooled
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 t. salt
  • melted butter for basting

Instructions

  1. Combine yeast and lukewarm water in the bowl of a mixer and let stand for 10 minutes.
  2. Add milk, melted butter and sugar to the mixture and stir. Add 1 1/2 cups flour to make a pancake consistency batter. Add egg and salt and mix well. Add remaining 2 1/2 cups flour and mix 5 minutes or until smooth.
  3. Grease a bowl and place the dough inside. Allow dough to double in size...about 1 hour.
  4. Punch dough down and roll onto a floured surface about 1/2 inch thick. Cut dough with a pizza cutter into squares. Place squares onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and cover with a towel until doubled in size...about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake 10-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Remove from oven and baste with melted butter.
