Taco Sauce

Taco Sauce

Yield: 3 pints

This is on par with a medium spice Ortega sauce.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups water
  • 3 cups tomato paste (about 2 12-oz cans)
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp hot pepper sauce
  • 6 (8 oz) half pint glass preserving jars with lids and bands

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large saucepot. Bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes to one hour or until thick.
  3. As mixture thickens, stir frequently to prevent sticking. Ladle hot sauce into hot jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Adjust two piece caps. Process 30 minutes in a boiling water canner.
