Snickerdoodles

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 3/4 cup plus 2 T sifted flour
  • 2 tsp cream tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 T ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream together shortening, butter and 1 1/2 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Blend in vanilla.
  4. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, mix well.
  6. Chill in refrigerator 1 hour.
  7. Combine 2 T sugar and 1 T cinnamon.
  8. Shape dough into balls the size of a walnut.
  9. Roll each in sugar-cinnamon mixture.
  10. Place balls about 2 " apart on greased baking sheets.
  11. Bake 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Cool on racks after removing from baking sheets. (5 dozen)
