Chop Suey
Ingredients
- 1/8 c shortening
- 3 c pork diced into 1/2" pieces
- 2 c diced onions
- 2 c diced celery
- 2 c chicken broth
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 c bean sprouts
- 1 c water chestnuts
- 2/3 c cold water
- 4 T corn starch
- 4 tsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp sugar
Instructions
- Heat shortening in a large, deep skillet. Sear pork until it turns white, then add onion and saute for 5 minutes. Add celery, soup stock, salt and pepper. Cover skillet and simmer for 5 minutes. Add sprouts and water chestnuts. Heat to boiling.
- In a small bowl combine the cold water, cornstarch, soy sauce and sugar. Mix together and add to skillet mixture. Cook for 5 minutes, or until thickened to taste.
Notes
Make a double batch and have some leftovers. Add anything else you want to this recipe such as snow peas, etc.
