Chocolate Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 tsp melted shortening
  • 1 c milk
  • 1/2 c cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 heaping tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 2 c flour and add more until a texture able to be rolled (eventually, nearly 4 cups)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a large mixer. Knead by hand eventually if necessary.
  2. Roll to 1/2 inch. Cut with doughnut cutter and drop into hot fat.
  3. Turn once during the frying process.
  4. Drain on paper towel and roll while warm in granulated sugar.

Notes

Doughnuts can be frozen.
