Hot and Spicy BBQ Sauce
Add small amounts of chili powder, Tabasco Hot Sauce, Louisiana-style hot sauce or more peppers to increase the heat. This is a thick and sticky sauce. WARNING: This sauce is too hot for most children.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon (tbsp) canola oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 onion diced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses (depending on how sweet you like it, add or subtract the amount of molasses)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce or for a hotter sauce 2 habanero peppers sliced in strips and seeds removed
- 4 tablespoons (tbsp) distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar (slightly different flavor)
- 1 tablespoon (tbsp) Worcestershire sauce
- Dash salt
Instructions
- Heat the canola oil over low to medium heat.
- Add the garlic and onions and cook for 5 - 7 minutes. Don't burn them!
- Reduce the heat to a low simmer.
- Add the remaining ingredients and let it simmer until the sauce thickens. After the ingredients have been added, it's fine to use a medium-high heat, but it should be reduced after a few minutes or the barbecue sauce will splatter. Stir occasionally. This is about 20 minutes.
